Olivia Rodrigo’s new song “the cure” is out. I have been listening to it all morning. Based on the video and the lyrics, I believe the song is about trying to help someone you care about, but you end up enabling them as they take advantage of you. Then eventually, you find that you are the one who needs help. She says “I’m unraveled” meaning she is frustrated because she is doing everything she can and it is not enough, because the other person doesn’t reciprocate. At the end of the video, it shows her stomping on a doll house. I interpret that as her showing that she broke out of that pattern and has matured now. No matter how good it felt it wasn’t real love. Real love isn’t about needing to cure or save someone.
